Actually I wanted to write detailed step by step guide on how to create your own personal themes for BlackBerry but we do have very good video tutorial available for this so I am just going to highlight basic stuff for now and will write more advanced tutorial in the next posts.
Before you start watching video click on following links and download the software required to create your first personal theme for BlackBerry. Just to note you will need a Windows based PC to do this. Sorry MAC lovers.
Software Required to create BlackBerry themes

Plazmic Content Developer’s Kit (CDK) v4.7 for BlackBerry!
Its English version software, file size: 222.074 MB, which was published on 03/11/2009. The v4.7 includes the updated CDK for creating themes for first touch screen BlackBerry Storm smartphone.

BlackBerry Device Simulators 4.2.2 +BlackBerry device Simulators are for you to test the themes on PC before installing it on a live BlackBerry device. The device simulators are separate for each BlackBerry models. for e.g. 4.6.0 for BlackBerry Bold 9000 series and 4.7.0 for BlackBerry Storm.

BlacKBerry Desktop ManagerWell in reality if you are just creating themes for fun or to see how it works then all you need is just Plazmic CDK to create themes and Desktop Manager to install themes on your BlackBerry Smartphone.
4. Photo Editing/ Graphics Software
Photo editing software are for you create optimized images and icons which are optional at this point of time but required later on to create functional, professional BlackBerry themes. There are some images/icons preloaded in Plazmic CDK which you can use to get the feel for the first time.
5. BlackBerry Smartphone, USB Data Cable and PC with Internet connection
To download, install, create and test themes live.
